Bongaon High School is one of the rare seats of learning in India as she started her journey in the realm of school education in 1864 under The British rule. Since then the institution tirelessly imparts education in rural Bengal stationed in Bongaon. The place also claims credit for giving birth to so many stalwarts in the field of religion, archaeology, literature and culture e.g., The great deciple of Lord Chaitannya Mahaprobhu; Thakur Haridas, Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay of Harappa-Mahenjodaro fame, The rebel dramatist of Nildarpan Mr. Dinobondhu Mitra, The famous writer, Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay of “Pather Panchali”. Who was the ex-student also. As per the record preserved inthe school, the institution was established in former Nadia district; presently in North 24 Parganas in the state of west bengal. The record also showes that twice the district of the same place included in Jessore at first under The British period and in undevided 24 parganas after the independence. From Middle English (ME) Schoolin 1864 bongaon high school was upgraded to High English (HE) School in 1886 under calcutta University. This glowrious seat of learning is still lively present in every nook and cranny of the globe with her off-springs, her students. WBBSE and WBCHSE records also endorse her creadit as the A1 institution.
Mr. Khagendranath Chakraborty of the institution stood first in the then Matriculation Examonation in 1911, the very year in which Netaji Subhash Chandra Basu stood second. Till date, time and again several alumni ranked in the Board and council examinations in the state. The glory of a school does depend on the number of the most eminent personality she presents for the entire civilization. Former Vice-Chancellor of calcutta university Dr. Rathindranarayan Bose, former vice chenceller of Jadavpur University Mr. Ashoke Nath Bose, former president of WBBSE Mr. Chittaranjan Banerjee along with many scientists, technologists, doctors, administrators, businessmen and in every segment of the society Bongaon High School contributed a lot more to her journey through the last 150 years.
Now an institution having about 2500 students and seventy other teaching and non-teaching staff provides holistic teaching-learning effort.
